Um they are due a defense, and lawyers have an ethical obligation to zealously defend. That is how it works, and again it is enshrined in the Constitution (right to a legal defense).

I am curious about how the constitution applies to foreigners captured trying to kill Americans (POW's), but that said, if they don't like the backlash try prosecuting or change jobs.

They deserve every insult that gets tossed their way.

They don't, by chance, have names similar to the rats they're defending, do they?

Sorry, but when they marched down to the PD office and turned in their resumes I highly fucking doubt they had any idea they'd be forced to represent war prisoners guilty of conspiring to kill Americans.
